The other day I was talking to my best friend. I asked him, ‘are you going to take this route’? He said, maybe. Going that route is important for him. But he is not sure.
He is not able to make that choice. Eventually it will not let him decide either. This is bad. This is indecision. First we have to make choices and then we decide to work that way.
Not only my friend, I have seen many people struggling to make decisions. Some make poor decisions. Some make bad decisions.
It is really hard to make the right decision. The one that really works for you. At least it should not do harm to you. Making the right decision really boils down to the experience you have. Else everything is an experiment.
There is nothing tough in making decisions. How do you learn to make decisions that work for you? In my case reading has helped me a lot. So I can say, you can too learn it from
- The person who has already done it. Asking them the right questions. But it is hard to find a person who can answer the questions you have.
- The books – Books help you decide on things and make informed decisions. For that you will have to read a lot. A variety of topics and subjects. One such classical example is Warren Buffet. He has made a lot of his fortune by reading. Whatever he reads has helped him make right decisions.
- Your own experience – In most of the cases we end up experimenting with the things. Experimenting can be successful. It can be disastrous. You need to be very cautious while experimenting. You should be aware of your risk appetite.
Experts say it is always better to fail than not to try. This is partly true. There is a lot that goes into it. Not everyone is cut to make it happen.
