The other day I was just walking down the street when I crossed one of my oldest friends.
Since I am back to my hometown after 16 years I do not know the whereabouts of many friends. I was surprised to see him. So was he.
We started talking and catching up on those 16 years. He immediately said, send me a message over the Facebook messenger.
I said I am afraid, although I have an account there. I do not actively use it for day to day activities. If you are comfortable I can save your number.
I can call you or text you to catch up some other time. Then we departed.
Facebook being one of the most popular social media platforms, I have seen in my community and friends circle people using it widely and extensively to stay connected.
While on one hand it has increased discoverability. You are more accessible now than ever. I personally feel it is counter productive for me.
Being social is fine. But being exposed is not fine. I am not comfortable sharing my personal life with my social network.
Both are different. Social and personal are two different words and they do have different meanings too. What people post and what is reality, it is a different topic
Personally I do not get it. Having said that, I use social platforms for business use. But for personal use I refrain myself.
